Taking A Vacation In Inverness And Facts You Should Know

Inverness, often called the capital of the Highlands of Scotland, was eventually granted city status in the year 2001 and at this moment in time is the the only city to be found in the region. Uniquely (in Britain) Inverness has no statutory boundaries which can cause problems when estimating populations. The situation is made worse by the fact that the very high population growth rate, the city has the highest growth rate for any city in the UK. One fact we know for certain is that the city has a rather happy population, in 2008 the Telegraph ranked Inverness 5th out of 189 cities in the UK for its quality of life. So I think we can state that Inverness is a pretty cool city in which to spend time and this is more than likely one of the reasons which make Inverness amazingly popular with tourists. Importantly there is plenty of Inverness bed & breakfast accommodations with most of it being bookable online.

Inverness is also often called the gateway to the Highlands for the simple fact that it is best placed to make the most of the Highland public transport system and an incredible number of tourist attractions are not too far away. Possibly the best way to visit them is by using an organized tour or day trip. A few organizations visiting places such as, Culloden, Loch Ness or Urquart Castle or for the hardy visitors you can to visit such places as John O’Groats in a day. There are also a small number of city tours, such as those run by Tony Harmsworth or City Sightseeing.

A small number of visitors choose to stay in 2 different locations in the Highlands of Scotland as an example Fort William and, later, Inverness. The town of Fort William is extremely popular with folk who enjoy sports especially hill walkers, ramblers and mountaineers who take their chances climbing up Ben Nevis which is not too far from the town. In a similar fashion Fort William bed and breakfast and like all Scotland bed and breakfast accommodation it is often inexpensive, very good value for money and very tidy, clean and comfortable with world class hospitality.

An important fact to remember is that the airport for Inverness is, about, 7 miles away at Dalcross. You can catch a bus or hail a cab to the small and busy airport which is fairly reasonable. If you will be needing maps of Inverness then you can get them for free at the tourist office, in the town center. While you are taking a city break in Inverness you should make a point to visit Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Inverness Castle, the ’stone of tubs’ and Mercat Cross especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an enjoyable interactive experience.
