Prestwick is one of the many airports which can be found in Scotland. Travelling times into Glasgow are around 40 minutes by car and just under an hour by train which has a direct link to the airport. There are only a small number of agencies within the airport so booking in advance is advisable.
The main route from the airport to most towns and cities is known as the M77 north to Glasgow or the A77 south to Stranaer where you can board a ferry over to Ireland. Along the way south you will drive through many a pretty village and town before you reach your final destination.
A lovely seaside town along this route is Ayr. The journey is fairly quick at around 20 minutes from Prestwick and with lots of shops and restaurants around the area. This is a perfect spot to stop off and look for those souvenirs for your friends and family.
Travelling further down you will drive into a quaint town called Girvan. At first it may appear sleepy but there is lots going on in and around here. Fabulous Chinese restaurant is opposite Asda supermarket and is perfect for sitting in or taking away to eat at home. Lots of your favourite dishes but with a slight Thai flavour to them. Walk over to the harbour from here and you will find a fantastic new park which is opened to the young ones of the area including paddle boats.
A short 10 minute drive will find you in Turnberry which is home to golf in Scotland. A short round of golf is any golfer’s dream to play on this course as the course is televised when major events are on in Scotland. You can stay in the hotel or on site at one of the local parks and perhaps stop by the club house for lunch.
There are lots of ruins and historic sites to visit in this area including Culzean Castle and a few Robbie Burns sites which are dedicated to him. There are lots of information on the web for places to visit. You could easily plan your week’s holiday just visiting the sites. There are lots of reasons to head south after arriving at the airport. The above are only a few reasons to visit this area there are lots more.
