Do you love to travel, but don’t have the funds to make it happen? With a little creativity and a true desire to see the world, you can figure out a way to travel without spending a ton of money. You may even be able to make some money along the way. There are plenty of jobs that allow you to travel. Not the kinds that keep you in meetings all day and hotel rooms at night, but rather a job that allows you to explore.

Teaching English as a second language gives you the opportunity to travel as well as the chance to make a difference in a child’s life. Depending on where you end up teaching, your job may also give you the opportunity to perfect a second language. Keep in mind that there are certain requirements that most teaching programs require. You cannot just start teaching without qualifications. You will need a TEFL certificate, which will cost you some money; however once you start working you can pay it off.

A tour guide must know his or her way around a city pretty well. This job may be a great choice for you, if you really want to get to know the places you are visiting. By becoming a tour guide, you will learn the history and back story behind each monument and church. There are also plenty of other tours you could lead, maybe a bar crawl organized by a local hostel or a tour on a sailboat. Be creative and think of anything. Chances are there are positions.

Photographers and writers have the flexibility of being able to work just about anywhere. If you currently work for a publication that won’t allow you to move, you could consider applying for a position abroad. If you work for yourself you have the option to work wherever you’d like. You can travel while you work. Many people are attracted to the idea of becoming a travel writer or photographer, but keep in mind that these jobs require lots of work. Also, do not expect much compensation in the beginning. If it is something you really want it is worth it.

Now what about the people who don’t want to work while they travel? If you don’t have a ton of money to spend, can you still travel? Well this is where your creativity comes in. There are certain things that you can do that don’t necessarily involve a job. You can offer your services to someone who needs to drive their car across country. Maybe you could house sit someone’s home while they are away. You could also do a home exchange with someone looking to travel to your city. There are many opportunities if only you look for them.
