2 Nov 2009Hydrophobic window cleaning refers to the nature of molecular structure and the bonding of water, dirt, and chemical components. The basic idea is that pure water can be used to clean window surfaces, often extended from a pole, rather than some of the more traditional methods. Because ladders and traditional cleaning methods are often dangerous, the purified water theory is one that has been tested with great success.
Hydrophobic window cleaning requires the use of purified water. The water has to be purified in order for the system to work. Water tends to carry molecules of trace elements, which is why our windows can have spots on them after the water has dried. When water evaporates it leaves behind all of those trace minerals, creating spots that make the glass look dirty.
How does it work? After all, it’s just water, right? Sort of. It is purified water. The difference between water and purified water is the trace elements. Water contains thousands of microscopic trace elements. Purified water has no trace elements and is just the bare bones basics, one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms.
When the purified water hits the glass surface the dirt molecules are absorbed by the water, as this is the effort to return its more natural state. The water molecules bond to the dirt molecules and thereby remove the dirt from the glass surface. The final rinse washes away the dirt that is now bonded to the water and because you are still using purified water it rinses clean and dries without leaving any trace material behind. Thus, there are not spots on the glass.
By leading the water through a long pole, one that can reach several stories high, the cleaning process can be done without ever touching a ladder or climbing into a potentially hazardous position.
The dangers of ladders, scaffolding, and chemical issues prompted the invention of such a system. Created from nothing more than mere water, several window cleaning issues were resolved well. There is no longer a need for fearful cleaning methods when it comes to most windows.
The basic delivery system for the hydrophobic window cleaning method is through a long reach tube that can shoot water. The hydrophobic solution is added to the water supply and bonds with the glass, also known as Hydrostorm this barrier will keep glass clean for up to four times as long, saving huge ammounts of money for the client. Since all you’re using is water, there is nothing left behind other than clean windows and a barrier to protect them from dirt.
