5 Jun 2009Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera is a digital single lens reflex camera that combines the characteristics of a traditional digital SLR and new technologies. It has 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor with APC-S size. It was released after Canon EOS 30D and before Canon EOS 50D. It is compatible with Canons EF and EF-S lenses.
It features Canons large-area CMOS or complementary metal oxide semiconductor sensor that enables you to capture exceptionally clear images with outstanding tonal range. It is an APC-S size sensor, which means that it has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras. Offering the most pixels in its class, it allows you to view scenes at an angle that is 1.6x the normal EF lens focal length.
The Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera features the powerful Live View function, which enables you to view your subject on the 3.0-inch LCD monitor. The Live View Function has new options for reduced shutter time lag and quiet operation. It allows you to magnify any part of the scene 5x or 10x for precise manual focus. This function can be used remotely via computer or wirelessly or via Ethernet with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3A attached.
Also featuring 14-bit conversion, it offers fine transitions from light to dark tones for outstanding color tones and gradations. It has an ISO range from 100 to 1600, which is selectable in 1/3 stop increments. With its extensive noise reduction technology, it offers sensitivity up to ISO 3200.
Designed with the latest-generation DIGIC III image processor that is powerful and fast, performance between the capture and recording stages of digital photography is maximized. It offers a burst rate up to 75 consecutive JPEGs or 17 RAW images with superior color and reduced digital noise. DIGIC III image processor is faster, more powerful and gives the camera its incredible combination of speed and image quality. It works together with Canon’s CMOS sensor to achieve even higher levels of performance.
The Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera uses much of the new technology first seen in the EOS-1D Mark III camera. It uses the new on-chip noise reduction electronics as well as new manufacturing techniques. With the new technology, each pixel is more sensitive to light and less area between pixels is wasted on the sensor.
It is the worlds first diagonal high-precision cross-type AF at center point with f/2.8 and faster lenses, which is the first in Canon AF SLRs. Meaning, it is the world’s first AF SLR where both lines of a cross-type sensor offer high-precision AF coverage. It has a newly designed high-precision 9-point wide area Auto Focus and each of these nine AF points has this cross-type coverage.
Its 9-point wide area AF enables the camera to focus faster and more accurately, even in more complex lighting. You can choose all the focus points automatically or you can access them using the 40D’s intuitive, thumb operated Multi-Controller. The cross-type sensor at the center AF point is sensitive to both vertical and horizontal lines when fast lenses (f/2.8 or faster) are used. This adds to the accuracy and precision of the wide-aperture lenses.
Considered as one of the fastest digital SLR cameras, it can shoot up to 6.5 frames per second. Allowing you to capture up to 75 JPEGs or 17 RAW images in one burst, this camera is perfect for shooting fleeting moments. It has a startup time of 0.15 second and a brief shutter lag time of only 59 milliseconds. It has a high-speed mirror drive and a predictive AF focusing. With these features, you are always ready to shoot the action.
