Still, there are benefits that come from natural tanning, that is, exposure to the sun has a number of health benefits. This is not the say that tanning beds provide the same benefits.

19 Jun 2009The use of tanning beds on a regular basis carries many hidden dangers that some regular users may not be aware of. It is important that members of a culture that idealizes tanned skin be aware of the risks involved in this 5 billion dollar industry.
It’s a summer ritual. We head out to the beach with our fruity drink (with umbrella’s in it of course), lather up our bodies with lotion, and tan our bodies till we can’t take it anymore. We sun worshipers love showing off that freshly tanned body. Not only do we look good, but we feel better with a tan. We feel healthy, more energetic, as well as more attractive.

What makes it more dangerous is the cultural craze for the tanned skin color and the 5 billion dollar tanning salon industry that wants to keep it going. It is important that everyone involved in such lifestyle be aware of the risks and proper precautionary practices.

In fact, since everybody has difference skin and ever product on the shelf has a slightly different formula there is a good chance that there is a perfect match for every skin type. There is also a good chance that you will never find that perfect match simply because of the wide range of brands to choose from.

20 May 2009To produce the tanning coloration, tanning lotion formulas are dihydroxyacetone, or DHA, based. The DHA is a sugar that creates a chemical reaction in your dead skin cells to change the color of the cells. Older forms of tanning lotions would contain high levels of DHA that resulted in the users skin turning orange in color. Todays formula has been so refined that turning orange from tanning lotion is now a myth. DHA based products are among the safest forms of sunless tanning.
