Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last ten years there is little doubt that you’ve heard about co2 emissions and your carbon footprint. The government, special interest groups, radio, television and your neighbors; everyone seems to have taken up the banner of the global warming march. There is a dizzying array of terminology thrown at us from carbon footprints to sustainability, renewable energy and carbon credits, offsets and neutrality.

9 May 2010AB 42 was introduced in 2006 by the California legislature as a way of seeking to control emissions throughout the state within a “cap and trade” scheme. Since its inception, the legislation has attracted considerable opposition, yet has survived challenges meant to water down or even suspend its effects. As the all-important November ballots approach, it seems that it will face a significant challenge, with a possible voter referendum ahead.

10 Dec 2009Recent research has shown us that only one out of two organizations is really aware of the need to become sustainable, let alone how to go about achieving this. This is remarkable as it appears that legislation will arrive in the not-too-distant future to force such compliance. As such, media is paying a lot of attention to this going forward. Compare this to those organizations who, as innovators, have already taken the steps to become sustainable and are using enterprise carbon and energy management systems effectively to help them with their goal.
Great harm is done to the planet by manmade chemicals such as refrigerant gases. They are a major cause of global climate change. We do need these chemicals on a day by day basis, as they help us to operate essential refrigeration equipment and make our lives easier, but they represent a significant threat to human welfare. Major governments have introduced regulations limiting the use of these substances, as they present a threat to the ozone layer and contribute to global warming.
