17 Oct 2009Environmental management is no longer something for scientists, environmentalists and politicians to debate, rather it is a theory that must be put into practice as a result of boardroom initiatives across the land. Until the latter third of the 20th century these kinds of environmental issues had been largely ignored in real terms by commerce and industry, even though it was clear that there were potentially serious repercussions down the road.

21 Jun 2009Several countries are now working on the development of an ultra efficient electricity delivery network, which allows electricity to be delivered between supplier and consumer through the use of smart grid architecture. Such a network will help to promote energy independence and will go a long way in the battle against global warming.
What began as a concept to address adverse climate change is soon to become a reality. International emissions trading is part of several global protocols as a means of controlling the costs of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The intent is to allow enterprises to trade unused emissions in much the same manner that other commodities are traded on the global market.

13 Jun 2009A bill being proposed by the U.S. Congress has caused storeowners to focus on retail energy management when it comes to improving their energy efficiency. The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 call for a cap and trade program in certain industries, the reduction in carbon emissions as well as a proposal to depend on renewable energy sources for as much as 25% of energy used by the year 2020. Efficiency standards are set for a large number of companies.
During times of peak usage, demand response programs are designed to manage energy. These programs are becoming a lot more popular, allowing companies to oversee the energy loads at each of their stores, either individually or collectively. Energy demands can be addressed, and controls implemented for location or by device. This is a better way to assess your energy usage, based on demand. Automated controls are real energy savers that result in significant savings.
The Climate Registry contains organizational boundaries. These are defined to enable the tracking, accounting and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. Companies within the United States provid information on a voluntary basis to assist in the ongoing battle to reduce global warming potential.
Just about every facility emits some type of greenhouse gas. In an effort to encourage businesses to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, there is an important tool called a carbon footprint calculator to assist in identifying ways to reduce carbon emissions. By using a calculator, entities can more easily recognize their greenhouse gas emissions, implement measures to reduce them and set benchmarks to gauge their progress.
The majority of the solutions we use to handle pollution of the air we breathe have been to decrease the amount of emissions from factories and the vehicles that we drive. The general thought is that we can put some control on the situation but not get rid of it entirely.
