31 Mar 2009Managing money is difficult. It is perhaps even more difficult to manage a Church’s money with a limited budget. In today’s poor economy many churches are feeling the financial crunch. If you are looking for a way to save a few dollars, then maybe finding some free church accounting software can help.
Fortunately, the Internet is full of sites that claim to be giving away free software, even for churches. However, sometimes these sites can be a waste of time. Below is a list of sites that offer free church software as well as their true cost.
The author of this article is not the owner of any of these sites, the author is simply trying to raise awareness.
Churchradius.com
Church Radius offers some free, web based church accounting software. This software requires connection to the Internet.
Church Radius’ software appears to be genuinely free (not a bad deal!). One major consideration is the fact that all of your Church’s valuable data will be stored on the Internet – not the most secure place in the world. Also, free online software is usually riddled with banner ads.
Sunday Software
Sunday Software is a well known site for anyone serious about church software. Unfortunately the site doesn’t actually make or sell any church accounting software. Nonetheless the site does have some great resources for churches.
Churchtrac.com
Churchtrac makes and sells church accounting software. The software appears very user friendly. They even offer the software for free for up to 100 contributing members. In other words when you start accounting for your 101st member, they start charging you.
Churchbizonline
Churchbizonline is actually what shows up first if you type in “free church accounting software” into Google (at least it was the day in which this article was written). The site actually only contains a link to Open Office. Open Office is the free version of Microsoft Office. It has nothing to do with church accounting software.
Useful church accounting software will probably cost you some money. Some free options exist, but they definitely have their limitations. Best of luck managing your church in these economically difficult times.
