Over the years, employees have been victimized, while others succumb to unemployment at times without the slightest of a compensation package. This has widely been contributed to by ignorance on the part of individuals, companies or organizations in failure to be in touch with government rules and regulations with regard to employment laws. These companies tend to illicit negative influences in the eyes of the public.
It is a point of concern that not many companies are able to keep up-to-date with the dynamic employment laws in line with their responsibilities as corporate entities. In effect, legal tussles with trade unionists and other labor organizations are the order of the day in a bid by the trade unionists to make employers abide to the established code. As an employer you may win or lose, but the damage is the negative publicity.
Among the laws that are easily overlooked is the law guarding disabled employees. As much you may want to treat all employees equally, those ones who are physically challenged need more attention. Special facilities may be needed by your organization to make them comfortable. Organizations have also been found to sideline disabled persons while looking for potential employees. Care should be taken during these processes as discrimination may lead to breach of the stated law codes.
There is also the issue of age. There are companies especially in emerging economies that use underage persons as a source of cheap labor. This is wrong as the human resources are a vital cog in the wheel of the company and should be remunerated well. Employers should also stick to the stipulated limits of wages.
Benefits for the employers have also been denied in most cases. Some employees do not even get to know what benefits they are entitled to. Organizations have withheld payments for insurance, treatment or hospital bills, social security contribution and also worker’s compensation.
The habit of companies hiring without regard to set guidelines can lead to employment of aliens which is not acceptable in most countries. Sometimes employees are subjected to unfair clauses in their contracts and some even work overtime without extra compensation. Once authorities get to know this, disciplinary action can be taken against errant employers.
The only way to avoid is that companies to be on the lookout for changes in the law, as well as adhering to the existing ones. Make sure employees understand every condition and regulation under which they work. And of course your company should be registered and should be filing legal levies regularly to the concerned authorities.
