Warm weather practically shouts “theme parks.” There’s nothing like loading up the family and taking them for a day filled with water rides, roller coasters, and funnel cakes. Theme parks can be expensive, however. The good news is that there are discounts to be found. So where do you go to look for these discounts?

To begin with, you should start on the park’s website itself. Usually, the theme park’s website will offer discounts similar to the ones that they have sold to other vendors in order to compete. Sometimes, by buying directly from the website you can get web only fares and save around $10.

Credit Unions are also a good place to look. Many credit unions offer their members discounted theme park tickets for local parks. The Health and Education Credit Union, for example, offers its members half-priced King’s Island tickets.

A number of product brands also like to offer discounted tickets to help sell their products. Make sure to check in with Coca Cola, Pepsi and other large corporations that frequently have gifts advertised on their covers before throwing them into the garbage. While the discounts might not be much from such offers, every $5 off coupon is worth it when you consider the overall charge of a theme park vacation.

The grocery store is also a good place to check for good deals on theme parks. Stores like Meijer and Kroger often offer discounts to their customers.

If it’s feasible, you can always visit the park in a group. Groups of people can get group rates. These are anywhere from $10 to $15 off the regular ticket price. A group usually constitutes of about 15 people. For some parks it might be less.

If you belong to any clubs or organizations, such as AAA, give them a call as well. Like the banks and credit unions, they often offer discounted tickets to area attractions. Disneyworld partners with AAA and supplies them with discounted tickets, for example.

Be cautious when finding tickets on discount websites. Although some of there are legit, many are not. You should check with the Better Business Bureau before you purchase them to see if any complaints have been registered about the company. You should also look on the theme park’s website, too, because they might just be offering the park’s “web deals.”

Anyone who has bene on vacation in a touristy area knows about timeshare dealers. These are the people that stand outside, usually with a small booth, and try to give you free theme park tickets for going on one of their tours. Supposedly, there is no pressure to purchase the timeshare. That is generally not true. However, some people don’t mind the tours and use them as a way to get free tickets.

Season Passes are also a good deal if you plan on going more than once that summer. They are actually not priced that badly and after two trips you have generally paid for the pass.

Of course, a common place to search for good deals are websites like Craigstlist and Ebay where you can find any number of people looking to get rid of or simply sell their season passes and individual tickets. But again it is important to check that they are not just offering you a marked up version of the deals present on the park’s own website.

Not matter how little these saving might sem, the cost really does mount up in a party of people and you could find that $5 off per person is enough to bring your vacation within your budget.
