19 Mar 2009What is an Amazon Kindle? The Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader that uses an electronic paper display. This device makes it easier for bookworms and enthusiasts to read e-books at any place and in any given time.
It also downloads content over Amazon whispernet using the Sprint EVDO network. Even without a computer, the Kindle can be used. Amazon Kindle is an embedded system for reading electronic books.
The original launch price of the first Kindle was 399$ but was then lowered to 359$. Amazon launched Kindle 1 in November of 2007. The device sold out at the initial launch and subsequently after that.
Other Countries are hopeful that the Kindle will soon be available to them, but so far the Kindle is only sold in the US. There are rumors of a soon to be launch of Kindles in Canada and the UK. But there are still issues with the whispernet and DRM that need to be worked out.
The announcent of the Kindle 2 came about a week before it’s availability on February 27, 2009. In spite of grumbles of a down economy, the initial release of the Kindle 2 in New York was impressive. It was a hit.
In the meantime, Amazon?s press conference turned out a bit dismal since Kindle 2 is only somewhat a repetition of Amazon?s first e-book reader, Among its technological improvements are a long battery life, a sleeker design, increased capacity and a tool to convert text voice.
The Kindle 2 fixes some user interface issues. It synchronizes the digital library with other mobile devices, but these are mere improvements or developments. They are not revolutionary and there are no complete changes.
Price speculation about the Kindle 2 abounds. Some rumored that the price will drop to 299$. Citing the similarity of the two models and the current ecomonic conditions.
Kindle management has a positive outlook about the supply of the Kindle 2. In spite of continued sell outs and back orders of the first generation Kindle. Management is confident that the Kindle 2 supply will be able to meet demand.
Kindle 2 is thinner, sleek and slightly lighter than the first Kindle. Your Kindle library can be synchronized with other mobile devices and locate definitions easily. It also has a feature that converts text voice.
The Kindle 2 is about 1/4 inch thick. It’s really a work of art. You would look really cool reading it at the beach. Some say that the improvements on the Kindle 2 aren’t very significant and with current competition with other ebook readers the outlook isn’t that great. Of course, these people work for Sony.
Move over Sony the Kindle 2 is here and not afraid of a little competition. This is the perfect device for book lovers, students, and especially commuters. If you enjoy reading you will enjoy the Amazon Kindle.
