Learn About Purebreds, Mutts and Designer Dogs

There have long been mixed breed dogs that differ quite a bit in looks, size and personality. They are often referred to as “mutts” and they tend to have strong healthiness and they make fantastic pets. You can frequently discover a wonderful mutt to adopt from the neighborhood shelter.

A mutt has an unspecified heritage. The parents are not ordinarily purebreds and the family is basically unfamiliar. There are no records of their genetic line and their heritage is uncertain.

A purebred has two parents of the same breed. Usually there are long genetic records that go back many generations. Breeders thoroughly select the dogs they will breed so as to guarantee that the strongest qualities are representative in the pups.

You may prefer a purebred for a pet or you may favor a mutt. A mutt will usually have durable healthiness and they do make fantastic pets but a purebred has individual character that are bred in. There also is another option that you may consider and that is the hybrid dog or the “designer dog”.

A hybrid or designer dog is a dog that has two purebred parents from two distinctive breeds. They are different from a mutt in that their heredity is established. The parents of the dog have a dissimilar inherited line that can be confirmed.

These days’ hybrid dogs are becoming quite popular. They can be found in dog shows, pet stores and even the movies. The hybrids usually have the best characteristics of each breed and they merge the best attributes from both breeds.

These hybrid dogs often have really entertaining names such as a cockapoo for a cocker and poodle mix, a puggle, which is a pug and beagle combination, a goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle combination and of course, many other fun mixtures of the two purebred names.

Hybrids are wonderful pets and if you are having a hard time deciding on a breed a hybrid can get you the best of two breeds. They mostly have fantastic health and they are smart and fun dogs to own.
