Outdoor gardens can be a wonderful, peaceful place to relax and unwind or they can be a place that is overgrown or barren that you avoid. It all depends on the time and effort you put into designing a garden that gives you the kind of environment you can enjoy.

One of the best ways I have found to create an outdoor garden space that I love spending time in is by starting with one central item, such as an outdoor swing. Take this item and find the perfect place for it and then build the rest of the garden around it. Create a unified look based on that one item.

When you are selecting your garden furniture take you time to consider what you like. Choose something you know you will enjoy using and looking at. You want it to be an item that you will love for a long time. Don’t despair if you find it difficult to find additional items to go with it at first. Just keep looking and before you know it, it will all fall together.

I can tell you this is true because the first time I designed my outdoor spaces, I wasn’t thinking. I bought pieces without considering how they’d look in my garden at home, and just based my purchases on how they looked in the store. The result wasn’t a garden that I felt comfortable with. It wasn’t terrible, but I didn’t like it, and no one else in the family really did, either.

If the piece I’m thinking about buying doesn’t go with the swing, there’s no way it’ll fit in with the ideas I have for my garden. That means that I can stick to my original plan without any problems at all, and the garden that I’ve created is beautiful, peaceful and a nice splace to spend time.
