The Ideology Behind Flowers And Their Hidden Meanings

Flowers are the first thing that we think of when we want to present a formal gift. But what some might not know is that flowers have distinct meanings in how they are given. If you truly want to make the impact you intended among the recipient, you will have to read up on the meanings of flower types and colors.

The type of flower you pick can have more than one meaning, and multiple flowers can convey the same message. That allows you to have more of a selection in your investigation, but also requires a bit more research on your part. The perfect example is with the lilac flower and the freesia- both of which are used to convey innocence. As such, you will probably see them both at weddings.

Yellow has been a hard color to put into words, but it is usually given under terms of recognizing fidelity or chivalry among friends. Yellow flowers are good for a same-gender gift at birthdays or holidays. You may also send them in response to a friend being sick or in the hospital. And of course, there is nothing wrong with surprising a friend with a Chrysanthemum for no reason at all!

When you want to celebrate a joyous occasion, your best bet would be to go with a light-orange flower such as the Birds of Paradise. A good occasion for such flowers would be a graduation- which signifies a youth’s rebirth as an adult and the joy that it brings as they go onto newer and better things. A job promotion, anniversary, or other positive event also does well with such flowers.

When sending the idea of love, you will obviously choose the rose over any other flower. Roses also come in many colors, so you can send more than one message at once. A yellow rose could indicate that you not only have love for the recipient, but that you either see the person as a close friend or a partner in which you will practice fidelity with. Roses are powerful indicators that should be used to their best ability.

If you want to show someone respect, or display a good sense of character, light purple flowers such as an Iris or Anemone can signify such subjects. If you want to make an inspiring scene for a funeral, want to wish someone well, or just want to thank someone for something they have done such flowers will be excellent in choosing.

Final Thoughts

Gift giving can be more complex than what you would think. The many ideas that a simple flower can show is almost mesmerizing. Don’t be discouraged or frustrated, however, since the process of finding the right flower for what you need can be a lot of fun if you allow it to be.
