Curtains are perhaps, the most vital of all the accessories of our rooms and hence, should be given more importance than the rest of them. Curtains are not just meant to drape your windows; they also serve the purpose of giving you the privacy and a manifestation of your taste.
Keeping in view the important position of curtains, it is compulsory that they should not look ordinary or improper. A situation may arise that the most costly fabrics may start looking really ordinary and improper, if they are unclean or ill-maintained. Go through the useful tips given below and get to know how to clean and maintain your curtains.
You should understand that cleaning and maintenance of curtains depend upon the type of fabric they are made of. You might have curtains made of light or heavier fabric. Light fabric curtains are easy to clean and maintain; they can be cleaned even by a gentle shake. Another domestic way of cleaning your curtains is to use a vacuum. You will notice that after regular vacuuming, your curtains do not show a speck of dirt or dust.
Cotton and linen curtains have to be cleaned and maintained four times a month. Washing machines have made this job easier. One gentle cycle in the washing machine will wash away all the dirt. They can be hanged outside in the sun to dry. Colourful curtains fade in the sun so, it is better to hang them in half sun and half shade. Do not leave the curtains outside; otherwise their colours will fade away.
You may have to get some of your curtains dry cleaned. It is not affordable to pay heavy charges of dry clean services every now and then. You may choose for a better option. You may either remove the dust by jerking the curtains well; or run a vacuum cleaner to take out all the dist and hidden dirt. Furthermore, the germs can be done with by using a steam iron on the curtains.
It is better to wipe your room curtains regularly with a lint brush. Always start wiping your curtains at the top, and end up working towards the base, as it would avoid any dust from falling over the curtain again. You can also maintain their look by vacuuming their both sides.
Sniffing your curtains will indicate if your curtains need a wash or not; a stale smell of a fresh smell will let you decide what you should do about your curtains. Spraying them with an air freshener may reduce the smell. But it is important to know if the air freshener contains any harsh chemicals or not. Harsh chemicals may damage the fabric of your curtain.
These tips can help you a lot to keep your curtains in a good impressive condition for long, without spending hefty amounts on them in buying new curtains again and again.
