24 May 2009Are you decorating a room for your baby boy? It’s lots of excitement. Especially if your baby hasn’t been born yet, the room-decoration is one of the biggest joys associated with the anticipation of having a baby. You’ll have many ideas surrounding you, tons of design books, and many ideas to consider. And since you’re a parent, we know there are chances you’ve probably spent many hours fondly imagining what the room might look like. And when your son finally arrives into this world- well, he’ll be too small and tiny to understand the room right then, but we guarantee he’ll love the bright colors. When he’s bigger, he’ll give you lots of warm hugs for creating for him such a wonderful room. If you’d like some basic ideas, here they are – how to play around with, for your kid’s room decor.
Firstly, you need to decide upon a theme. What kind of theme would you like? More importantly, what kind of theme would your son like? There are many different kinds of themes available for a kid’s room decor, and you are spoilt for choice. You could go for a Nature theme. One side of the room would have a wall mural depicting a forest scene – a few animals, trees and birds. The bed could be a bunk-bed, and here’s a good idea – you could go for artificial creepers, and have them wind up around the bed post. There are artificial leaves available in the market too, if you think your son would like them. Try for furniture in shades of brown and green, and other earthy shades, ditto for the curtains and drapings. We guarantee the room will look nice, if done up with care.

Another theme you might try is the Comic Characters theme. Not just boys, all children appreciate cartoons – and you could have wall decals of different cartoon characters. DeeDee and Dexter, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester and Tweety, Porky Pig, Tom and Jerry – the list is never-ending. Fill the room with cartoon-themed stuffed toys as well – there are lovely ones available in the market.
There are loads of different kinds of stuffed toys available in the market – pick out nice cartoon-themed ones, and fill the room with them. You could also go for a cartoon scene-themed mural, flip through catalogue books that offer such a theme, and make use of the nicest one. Try the Outer Space theme as well – you’ll get a kid’s room decor that’s stunning and unique, both at the same time. Buy a hanging solar system, dangling right above your baby’s crib – this will amuse him, and studies have shown that these eye-catching colors and the movements help the baby’s cerebral development. Go for a Planets and Stars – themed wall mural.
When the theme’s been decided upon, you need to know how to implement it. There are specific things to keep in mind. Try to get the involvement of an older child, and take his/her suggestions regarding artistic interests and colors. Reinforce the room’s theme and the kid’s room decor, so shop for fabric and wallpaper accordingly. Decide upon a focal point – that means the point in the room upon which the theme will be focused most – perhaps the study-table, the bed or even a particular wall. Plan in such a way that you can leave space for book-cases, wardrobes, wall pictures and a bulletin board upon which your son can display his artwork, once he’s all grown up. And now that you’ve got the basic stuff sorted out, it’s time to start decorating!
