14 Mar 2009Bill always worried about his daughter, Josie. She always had that independent streak growing up. The past Thanksgiving, she announced to the family that she would be moving to the big city to work on her acting career.
Josie’s sister reacted. She asked her older sister on how she would be able to keep up with her workout routine. Sparks could have come across the table right after Josie spoke. Josie told her family that she wouldn’t change her workout routine, which meant that she’d be doing her three-mile walks on a daily basis as usual.
Bill resolved that he’d support his daughter, no matter what. So at Christmas time, a few days before Josie planned to leave town, he picked up an extra gift.
On the next family gathering, Bill apologized for his shortcomings, especially for Josie.
Josie knew all along that her father had been doing his very best just to keep her safe all the time.
Bill continued his moving speech and so, he told her that he had thought of something that will make the both of them will feel a lot better regarding her transfer.
His Christmas gift for Josie was a pair of Hot Walkers, which could be disguised as a regular pair of aerobic hand weights – the perfect accessory for Josie’s workout program.
“But these weights keep you alive in another way,” Bill explained. “Let’s say you run into someone who wants to hurt you. Just press this button right here to blast them with pepper spray. They won’t be able to do much of anything for a while, so you can run and get help.”
As a father, Bill told Josie his concerns, which goes something like this: I know you want to keep the same kind of independence youre used to out here in the country. This should let you stay in control. Hopefully, it will keep me and your sister from worrying too much about your safety.
Josie was overwhelmed by her father’s great support for her. Soon enough, everyone in the family was able to give Josie a good luck celebration for her new life in the big city.
