31 May 2009Interior shutters can bring style to all of your rooms. vinyl house shutters have been used for interior decor for years. Traditionally, all interior shutters were crafted from wood. There was no alternative. Plastic would look too cheap and metal just wouldn’t work. Today, though, there are many unique styles of interior house shutters and some options instead of wood.
One type of interior shutter that has become fashionable among homeowners is vinyl interior shutters. There is still a debate over which kind of shutter is better. There are both pros and cons when it comes to both vinyl and wood interior shutters.
Wooden shutters
Wooden house shutters look elegant and are especially old-fashioned. They bring a look of richness to any house, whether they are used inside or on the outside. The majority of consumers appreciate the appearance of real wood, and wooden shutters are strong and durable as well.
Wooden shutters look great, when stained or painted. They must be either stained or painted and sealed prior to hanging. Then, as time wears on, they need to be re-painted and re-sealed. Caring for wooden shutters requires time and money. They are also particularly costly to pay for, especially if you purchase them pre stained.
Wooden shutters are also susceptible to rot and insects. Because they are made of natural materials, they will someday rot.
Vinyl shutters
Vinyl house shutters are maintenance free. They do not need any painting, staining or sealing – ever. They come in a variety of different colors and styles and are an eye-catching, maintenance free choice for shutters for your home.
However, vinyl shutters can get small dents in them whenever anything hits them, like hail or a baseball. Although wood can get dings as well, vinyl seems to take more of a bruising because it is a softer product. Many people prefer to avoid vinyl because it is less expensive and looks like it. There are still many people who would rather have real wood.
Vinyl shutters are, let’s face it, plastic. Some of them are made to look like real wood, but are obvious to the attentive eye. While vinyl shutters cost less than wood shutters and do not need fussing over, wood shutters are nonetheless preferred by most buyers.
Your decision on house shutters will depend upon your budget, tastes, and how much much effort you will be able to spend taking care of the shutters. If you are looking for a shutter that will not require any maintenance and looks appealing on or in your home, you may want to consider vinyl shutters.
If you do not mind doing maintenance every so often and are willing to part with a bit more money, you may want to consider wooden shutters. Either way, shutters are a attractive improvement to any home and come in quite a few styles, shapes and colors. Whether the material you prefer is wood or vinyl house shutters, you can be sure to come across the house shutters that will suit you and complement your home.
