It is a little known fact that renovating and improving your kitchen can boost your wealth. If you are considering a home renovation project to increase the value of your home then the kitchen is one place to look.

Kitchen Improvements

Any improvements you are going to make depends on the current state and condition of your kitchen. There are, however, some important areas to focus on.

Color Schemes

The overall feel and comfort in the kitchen can be affected by the colors you choose. In modern kitchens, neutral colors are often used. These colors, that are popular, include earth tones, creams, gold and gray. Any wood on the floors or in cabinets tends to be light colored. A popular effect is to paint the cupboards and then wipe it off to enhance the grain.

Stainless steel hoods over cookers or ranges are popular, practical and important for safety. Kitchen islands are also still as popular as ever. Occasionally the materials for the unit and the counter top are different than the rest of the kitchen. This can look particularly stunning when the materials are chosen carefully.

Two by Two

A technique that is being used more frequently, especially in higher budget kitchens, is to have two of every appliance such as the range and dishwasher. This may seem over extravagant but does come in very handy for the larger families. On of my favorite additions is the marble surface for making pastry and the built in chopping block.

Additional accessories that are increasing popular are under cabinet lighting which make for shadow free work surfaces. A drinks making area with a dedicated smaller fridge and smaller sink is a useful addition.

Practical Issues

A pot filler spigot is a very useful addition as it allows a pot to be filled easily without tilting it to get underneath it. When the pot is filled, the spigot can then be easily swung out of the way and the pot lifted. In some kitchens an even better solution is offered in that the spigot is placed above the cooking surface so that the pot does not even have to be moved.

Kitchen Appliances

The more expensive appliance makers like Sub-Zero, Viking, and Thermador have produced many innovations in the recent years. Manufacturers of less expensive appliances are starting to following suit. It is possible to find a stove with two ovens or six burners instead of the more often found four.

Cabinets

New kitchen cabinets can often be a bit expensive, but they are definitely worth it when it comes time to selling the home. Custom made cabinets are definitely the way to go if you can afford it. If you can’t afford custom cupboards then many high street stores sell ready made units.

A kitchen renovation plan is definitely and option seriously worth considering if you are looking to increase the value of your home.
