6 Aug 2009Camping is such a great family adventure. If you are going to take kids with you, it will give them some precious memories. People who went camping as a youngster can vouch for that. It doesn’t matter what you actually do during the trip, or what the weather ends up being like, it is usually a great adventure when you are a kid.
Don’t forget to bring the most important things. You will need to bring a tent unless you are planning to rent a cabin or stay in a camper. You will definitely want some kind of minimal shelter for you and your family. Depending on where you are camping, there are many potential things you are going to want better shelter from.
Some of the absolutely necessary tools of camping are pillows, flashlights, sleeping bags, batteries, a hatchet and chairs. If you are going to be camping in a tent, think about getting yourself an Aero inflatable portable bed inflatable air mattress. It will really improve your whole trip if you get a better nights rest.
Plan ahead so you have the right tools for building a campfire. Bring old newspapers or thinner pieces of cardboard. Take a lighter and some matches. I prefer to bring both a camping saw and a hatchet. I also would prefer to take my own wood. You may not be allowed to provide your own firewood for various reasons depending on where you are going to be camping. Some campgrounds have regulations prohibiting it because of plant diseases.
You should think about cooking your meals. Consider bringing a cooler for food, propane stove, propane tanks, plates, silverware, dish rag, soap and a plastic tub for washing dishes. Not all state parks have the facilities to wash dishes. We usually take throw away plates and silverware.
Consider what kinds of clothes you will need for the trip. If you are going hiking be sure you have some comfy hiking boots. You don’t want foot pain. Bring a couple pairs of shorts if it will be warm and jeans otherwise. Your clothes may get dirty or ripped so don’t wear your best clothes. Don’t forget to include a bathing suit, rain poncho, sweatshirt and a hat. Those are must have items for any camping trip.
Remember to also bring all of your personal bathroom products for you and your loved ones. Put all of the essentials into convenient bags. Make sure you bring shampoo, cotton swabs, bars of soap, deodorant, shaving cream, and disposable razors. Don’t forget to remember contact lens solution if someone wears them. Don’t forget to bring towels for everybody. If you intend to be gone more than a couple days, you are going to want something to hang the towels on to dry out. Don’t forget to bring any necessary medicines.
Some other things that you could bring to make the camping trip even better would be campfire popcorn, battery powered lanterns, binoculars, cameras, mosquito repellent, marshmallows and chocolate bars, bottled water, cocktails, cigars, Aloe Vera lotion, bandages, sun tan oil and a radio.
Bring toys for the little maniacs. You are going to have a lot more fun on your trip if the youngsters have plenty of things to occupy their time. Anyways, half the reason you are going camping is for them to have fun too. Bring a football, softball, Frisbee and a kite. Bring anything that can be done safely outdoors. Make the most of the wide open spaces in most campgrounds.
Make yourself a personalized camping list. There will be things that you consider essential that I haven’t mentioned. Make a complete list so you won’t forget anything important. Some people can’t leave home without taking a camera, fishing gear or their favorite hobby.
