31 May 2009If you haven’t heard of Feng Shui before being a design in someone’s home, this may be quite interesting. Feng Shui is a technique which makes the space in a home flow and full of life without having it blocked by negative energy. This comes from the Chinese history and has been around for many centuries. When creating a Feng Shui home you need to know every detail on how to design a space which offers this wonderful technique. Make sure you read as much as you can about Feng Shui so everything is correct when designing your new Feng Shui space.
In feng shui, color is a very big design element – one of the most major – that affects chi. Each color represents one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Most of the time, you have to use a particular color for a room to supplement the lack of the corresponding element, thus achieving elemental balance and harmony. There are also ‘moods’ for each color that depend on the specific purpose of a room. For example, bedrooms are places for rest, while living rooms are meant to look cozy and inviting.
If you are a traveler or someone you know brings you items back like area rugs and you don’t want them to get ruined lying on the floor, make wall art. Nothing is better than having a wonderful area rug on display from another country or a family heirloom.
Many stores sell great rug mounts for walls or you can just use a standard window rod to place your area rug on display. If you don’t want to attach anything directly onto the wall try placing this wonderful rug over a banister or even placed over a couch like a throw blanket. It will give the room your own unique style.
One of the great additions to a Feng Shui room is an area rug. This rug can bring bright colors to many areas along with the warmth and cozy feeling which you desire. Try using a darker colored area rugs in a bathroom since many of these locations are already bright and inviting. Red is a great option for the bedroom since it’s a romantic color and also very deep. Just make sure the rug which you purchase is soft and a texture which you want to feel beneath your feet.
Feng shui is a complex method, and isn’t something you just pick up overnight. But you do not have to be an expert to apply the basics of feng shui in your own home. All you need are your instincts and a good aesthetic eye. Look at a color or design piece and judge it based on the mood that it impresses on you. Just match that mood and energy to those of your household; go for deeper colors if you want everyone to relax more or lighter ones if you’d prefer people to lighten up and relax.
