10 Jul 2009It seems that in no time at all your baby has grown out of all the clothes that fit just a few short weeks ago. In these hard economic times we all need to save money when we can and planning shopping trips for baby clothes around the growth of your baby will certainly help you save some cash. Think about the following next time you are buying baby clothes:
* Always buy a larger size than they actually need because babies grow so fast. Clothes that fit perfectly now will probably be too small in a few weeks. Buying baby clothes in a larger size will extend the amount of time they will be able to wear them, thus saving you money.
* It is a good idea when choosing clothes by age, such as 9 months or 12 months, to work out the time of year when your baby is old enough to wear them. It’s no good buying summer clothes to fit a ten month old baby if it will be the middle of winter when they will fit!
* When picking baby outfits look for ones that are easy to put on and don’t require removing for diaper changes. Those beautiful outfits with buttons down the back may look good but they can test your patience when you are struggling with a crying infant. It is far better to choose clothes that open down the front and have poppers or zips for easy diaper changes.
* No matter how careful you are your baby is going to spill food down his clothes or dribble or be sick on them. Make sure you have enough changes of clothes to deal with these messy accidents.
* Save money at the clearance rails: You’ll be able to save a lot of money by checking out the clearance rails. Nearly every store has these especially when the new season’s clothes are coming in. Also, if you wait for a big sale you can save even more. Occasionally, some stores markdown their clearance items even more at the cash register.
* Accept new and gently used clothes: If a member of your family has older children they may want to give you their children’s baby clothes. Sometimes these may include new clothes that their baby didn’t wear. This is a great way to save money especially if they’re things you would have bought yourself.
* What do you do with all the clothes your baby has grown out of? One idea is to sell them to try to recoup some cash. There are various outlets where you can sell off those gently used baby clothes such as a yard sale, on eBay or maybe a thrift shop. Although you won’t make a lot of money every little helps!
These are just some of the ways you can save money when shopping for baby clothes. I’m sure there are many more. So before you go on the next baby clothes shopping spree it’s worth remembering some of these ideas.
