You can easily create a luxurious bathroom without spending much at all.

1. Furniture in a bathroom?

If you have room for an armchair put one in. You dont have to buy a new armchair, a second hand one will do, covered with a nice linen sheet or a luxurious throw like faux fur.

2. Wallpaper is usually cheaper than tiling

Okay so tiling is great and necessary next to obvious splash areas but consider some coated wallpaper, especially designed for bathrooms. It may be cheaper than tiling all around but it can add a luxurious feel to any room if you do it right.

3. Colour me Beautiful

Colour coordination is the key. Nothing too garish or you will never be able to relax in your bathroom. This goes for the fixtures and fittings AND the accessories too.

What colours to use for your bathroom?

Red is the colour of vitality, energy and stimulation. It increases the pulse and tenses muscles.

Choose Blues to help you relax.

Green is to invigorate: it fights depression, calms the nerves and resfreshes, hence it being used in hospitals.

Yellow aids digestion, increases muscle tone and purifies the blood. It stimulates a sense of security and happiness just like sunshine.

4. Window Dressing

Using linen to make curtains is a cheap and effective way to add that luxurious chic to any bathroom.

5. Accessories

Glass bottles full of coloured bathing oils or bubble-bath can look great and cost little. If you fancy a seaside theme, beach pebbles and starfish etc are free. Try not to add to much clutter and if you want to put in lots of pretty things, consider a display stand or some decent shelving to make a real impact.

6. Mirror Magic

Big mirrors or mirror tiles create the illusion of space and are especially important in small bathrooms.

7. Candles

Every bathroom should have candles! And scented ones are best. They look good, they create a lovely scent and they really create an atmosphere at night.
