15 May 2009Are you like me in that we care about what we look like even in yoga clothes? Just because we are attending a yoga class is no reason to loo frumpy. I know, I know, yoga is for many people a way to “reconnect with the universe” or whatever and that is fine for them. They might feel like it is too shallow to care about your looks in yoga class but I just don’t feel that way. For us yoga is another exercise to keep fit and calm and there is nothing wrong with wanting to look good while practicing in yoga clothing.
Maybe you do too.
I like it when my surroundings make me feel more relaxed and this includes my yoga pants and top. Often a nice pair of lightweight yoga pants feels better than something heavier like hemp or linen for me. Comfortable yoga clothes make it easier to go with the flow that yoga is so well known for.
I have to imagine it is easier for women to find comfortable yoga clothes than for men. I still can’t figure out how they choose to wear some of the things they do to yoga clothes.
As far as yoga clothing goes, most women choose baggy yoga pants over something more clinging like Capri yoga pants. It’s not that Capris are bad but they tend to bunch up around the calves. I love the flowing aspect of the baggier styles. Comfort is paramount, whether you are practicing at home or in the studio. After all the key to continuing to practice is your own comfort.
Do you know anyone who practices what is commonly called hot house yoga? These people practice with Bikram yoga clothing although Bikram is only a brand name and not a particular type of yoga pants. It is however the most popular type of yoga that is practiced in a room where the heat is turned way up. If youve tried this system before you will know that the added heat really helps you limber up and feels like it lubricates all your joints and muscles as you practice.
I doubt that anyone would care if you choose cheap yoga pants or the ones that are so colorful and are made of silk or satin. What matters is that you chhose something very sturdy because you ARE going to sweat buckets ad your yoga clothes need to stanf up to such use.
This is not to say that your yoga clothes need to cost a king’s ransom. But like everything you will buy you will want to do your research before making a purchase. That way whatever it is you wear to your yoga class will last and last.
