Controlling panic attacks is of utmost importance to anyone who suffers from these debilitating episodes. More often than not, people resort to drugs of one form or another, looking for an immediate fix for their problem. Although temporary, the severity of the symptoms has them running for the quickest relief available. Aside from the fact that this relief is only temporary, the drugs have other negative side effects which need to be considered.

Hypnosis is another commonly tried method of treatment. However, this technique has not proven to be very effective for most panic attack sufferers. Simply feeding suggestions to the human psyche seems to be inadequate for this purpose.

Another common method that people experiment with is therapeutic counseling. This method is long in duration because it requires people to uncover and analyze their emotional past and present in order to deal with the attacks. Because this is time consuming, it wears down the person looking for quick, lasting relief from panic attacks.

There is little question that the symptoms from panic attacks are devastating, and once experienced become a constant source of anxiety. The simple thought of whatever triggered the original attack and the vivid memories of helplessness can bring on another attack. This cycle repeats itself until such time as treatment is introduced.

In controlling panic attacks, the root cause must be given attention instead of the symptoms. When root causes are satisfactorily dealt with, the symptoms will disappear. The main cause of panic attacks is intense anxiety. Panic attacks can start with the mere anticipation of threat or danger, whether real or imagined. As the attack comes on, it manifests itself through bodily responses such as dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations and shortness of breath.

There are other natural, easy to learn techniques available for controlling panic attacks anytime and anywhere. These are methods that can be self administered and have been proven to be highly effective in reducing symptoms and sometimes even stopping the attack at the onset.
