24 Oct 2009Stun Batons are a great self defense weapon when you want to keep an attacker away from you and not let them get close. Stun batons pack a high voltage punch and can be intimidating looking.
You will have a clear advantage by keeping an assailant at a safe distance when you use a stun baton because the reach of the stun baton is greater then the reach of an attacker’s arms. When the attacker is a distance from you sometimes just by test firing the unit and the sound and sight of the unit will be enough to scare him off.
Keeping the stun baton in your possession and out of the hands of the attacker (unless you are stunning him) is a priority. Heaven help you if the attacker wrestles your self defense weapon from you. He could turn it on you!
When buying a stun baton look for safety features that will help to prevent an attacker from taking the stun baton away from you. One feature that works well to prevent this is to buy one that has metal strips running down the side of the baton that also become electrically charged when the baton is activated. This will stop any attacker from grabbing it out of your hands!
One of the features that is really helpful to make sure you keep it in your hands is a wrist strap with a disabling pin. The way it works is the disabling pin is inserted into the base of the stun baton. The wrist strap is placed around your wrist. If an attacker does manage to pull the stun baton from your grasp the unit is deactivated. He will not be able to turn around and stun you with it.
OK, sometimes length does matter. Especially when it comes to using a stun baton. If you are concerned about how short or how long a baton you should get consider looking at an expandable stun baton. When not in use these little babies are a compact 12″. With the press of a button they extend to about 21″! Pretty neat, huh? When not in use it can be carried comfortably in your hand, just like an umbrella, or placed in a holster and clipped to your belt.
Don’t consider using one of these just for self defense from an attack. If you walk a lot you probably have at one time been approached by a very unfriendly dog. What did you do? Well, with a stun baton your chances would be a lot better of warding off a dog attack. One touch of the baton before the animal gets close enough to bite you and he will run away yelping with his tail between his legs!
