To really be sure that your next and final attempt to quit smoking would be a success already, there are a few important reminders that you have to note. Succeeding in this challenge is not something that can happen to you by accident. If you really desire to stop smoking for good, you must try to make conscious decisions and keep them at all cost. If your goal as you wake up is to stop smoking that very day but if you have not made any clear-cut goals of how you would go about it, chances are you would smoke as soon as an opportunity comes to you.

At the start, the idea of quitting really looks fearful. Although you are aware that for the sake of health that is what you should do but it is difficult to break away from a habit that has given you a sense of comfort. Quitting is really scary that you immediately start to put on efforts to go against it. You do a job of convincing yourself that it is really impossible and any attempt will just lead you to fail. This simply goes that if you believe you have no chance to succeed, then you have already sealed your fate to fail. But if you believe that you can succeed, then the task would be much easier to carry on.

The first step that must be done is to pick out a specific date of when you can start. Of course you can choose when do you like to start, but unlike the fad diet that you have been meaning to start, this really has an actual date of start. As soon as the date arrives, assemble your friends and family into a support network. They will help you when the going gets tough, and when you feel you are losing the will power to continue. As a great step in the right track, avoid buying or even noticing new cigarettes when you are out or discard any cigarettes you have in your possession.

Note though that the cigarettes that are still somewhere in your cupboard or in the living room are still in your possession, although one may not be in between your fingers or in your lips. You have to remove from your home everything that is associated to smoking. Matches, lighters, and all cigarettes have to be thrown out. As much as possible, wash everything such as your bed sheets and drapes. Anything that has a smell of smoke in it should be cleaned. You will transform the atmosphere of your home, literally, by making it fresh smelling and clean. Just by striving with changing the smell of the house can go a long way in ridding yourself of cigarettes since you do not want the fresh air to be ruined by the smell of smoke.

Have a reward system for yourself. A good way to start is by rewarding yourself after 24 hours that you are smoke-free. Then continue to day 2, day 3, then to the 1st week, 2nd week, 1st month and so on. The little rewards that you give to yourself would help you stay encouraged when you feel you are about to give up with quitting and give in to smoke. Once you have broken off a promise or goal, make sure losing the reward is painful so that the sanction is effective. If you are a major sports fan, buy yourself a season ticket if you meet a goal. In that way, you would remain enthusiastic with your plan.

Putting your goals down to writing is another great strategy to ward off cigarettes. Writing down your goals makes them more important and you feel they have power over you. If you only have your rules and goals about quitting smoking in your head, it is easy to just change them as you go along. But if you have written them down, it is a lot easier in your family to point any lapse out and make you accountable. Additionally, the struggle to correct a lapse may be more reasonable than to entirely quit. It might be scary talking about quitting, but once you write your plan down, you would realize that it is really just simple.
