Is ColonSmart a Scam?

ColonSmart is another colon cleanser that at first glance seems to be a good solution, but a little deeper look and you’ll see some red flags. While it doesn’t seem as popular as it once did, ColonSmart is still getting searched for quite a bit. This review of ColonSmart will take a peek into the ingredient in the product and then go over some details about the business that I found while reviewing.

As far as the product itself goes, I see no big red flags here. ColonSmart has many of the commonly used fiber-based ingredients found in many other colon cleansers on the market. Ingredients include: psyllium, licorice, rhubarb, buckthorne, fennel, ginger, cascara sagrada, and goldenseal. I see no reason why it shouldn’t be relatively effective.

The review started going south, however, when I looked in the company behind the product. The Better Business Bureau gave this California based company an F rating. This is never a good sign. Listed by the rating they mentioned complaints that ranged from not being refunded for returns to poor customer service to unauthorized credit card charges.

One of the complaints that I saw multiple times on the internet complaint boards was that after they had ordered a free trial, ColonSmart was automatically charging their consumers credit card each month and that the customer had not authorized these charges. Many free trial scams automatically enroll you in their autoship program and do this. Most do it in a horrible way and hid the terms of free trial in the fine print. ColonSmart, however, actually does a good job of making it rather clear that by ordering the free trial, you will also be enrolling in the autoship (they have a good explanation right under the area where you put your credit card info). So, I’m sorry to say, but in this case I think it’s the customer’s fault if they didn’t know about the autoship.

What isn’t the customer’s fault, however, is the fact that ColonSmart is allegedly very unresponsive to customer questions or concerns. Many of the complaints that I found mentioned that they either were given the run around when the called or that ColonSmart didn’t answer the phone at all. They obviously do this in order to keep charging your credit card each month when you are unable to contact them to cancel. Many had to resort to cancelling their credit card number.

Another red flag for ColonSmart was their one-sided guarantee. If you are able to get a refund on your return of some kind (which apparently is rather difficult), they still charge you a 35% restocking fee. So either way, they make money off of you. They also don’t refund any shipping and handling charges (although this is common).

In summary, ColonSmart is out to get your information, charge your credit card, and never stop. The product itself seems to fine, but it’s the poor business practices of the company that is out to get you. The BBB gave them a poor rating for reason and the complaint boards online back up the alleged problems. I suggest looking elsewhere unless you like losing money.
