One of the main components of the Cayenne Pepper Diet detox is the salt water flush. This is different from the lemon and maple syrup solution that you drink during the day. The salt water flush is intended to be taken first thing in the morning to clear your bowels, mobilizing waste and then eliminating it.

The salt water flush has the benefit of cleansing out your entire digestive system, not just the colon like laxatives or enemas will do. Because of this, you may find yourself experiencing a greater sense of energy and well-being, a renewed appreciation for food and skin that is free from impurities. And because you are using a home remedy, you have avoided becoming dependant on expensive products to help with your cleanse.

You likely have everything you need for the basic recipe. It requires a quart of warm water and 2 teaspoons of salt. You can also add the juice of a lemon to help with the taste. It’s important the you use only non-iodized sea salt for this flush. Regular table salt won’t work. You can purchase good sea salt at a quality supermarket or health food store. Once mixed, sip the drink in one sitting.

Burroughs recommends to drink the entire quart, but I found that to be too difficult. I tried forcing myself, however, with experimentation my body let me know that just 16 oz of the salt water flush was effective. Try experimenting yourself to see what works best. If you can’t stomach the taste, an alternative is to consume an herbal laxative tea in the evening before bed. This helps move things along.

If you have health concerns or reservations about the salt water flush, it would be best to consult with your physician before starting this. In fact, before beginning any cleanse or diet it’s a good idea to clear it with your doctor. Some doctors will advise you against the flush, suggesting your colon will do all the work needed once you have completed your cleanse. Talk to your doctor about it.

The bathroom is going to be very important to you after you drink the saline solution. About 30-45 minutes after drinking the quart of prepared salt water flush, you will experience an urgent need for a bowel movement. This indicates that the flush is doing it’s job. If you are feeling bloated and elimination isn’t occurring, you may try squatting with your back against the wall to help things along.

In conjunction with the cayenne pepper diet, the salt water flush is useful to help you start with a clean slate and get the true unpolluted benefits of the cleanse. Remember these valuable tips:

1. Speak with your doctor first if you have ulcers, appendicitis, tuberculosis, or cancer;

2. Celtic Sea Salt is said to make the taste more tolerable;

3. Try using a straw to help drinking the salt water flush;

4. Wait eight hours after your last meal before using the flush. It won’t work properly if performed to soon;

5. Be near a toilet. Enough said;

There are a few detoxification symptoms that can occur – irritability, hunger and headaches. The headaches will last a few days but then dissipate. You may want to take pain medication however it’s not advisable. You would be adding yet another dose of chemicals to your body while you are detoxing. To help with the headaches, drink a lot of water to remove the headache-causing toxins sooner from your body. It will also help with the hunger.
