8 Apr 2009A serious condition of the skin, acne can be extreme, such as cystic acne covering the whole of the face and neck, to only minor outbreaks of spots and pimples. However, both cases can and does cause emotional and physical stress to the sufferers, mainly because it is such a highly visual affliction. It is just not easy to hide. For some time it has been suggested that there might be an acne vitamin capable of defeating this disease.
However, that seems highly improbable. But, never the less there has been research done in this area and there are certain vitamins that can be taken for acne. The vitamins do seem to make a difference to the skin’s ability to tolerate environmental pollutants and overly clogged pores, while not developing acne.
Vitamins and minerals are essential for the removal of toxins from our bodies, they are classed as anti-oxidants. Because of their importance in the removal of the toxins, the body and organ system will only remain healthy if the correct amount is ingested. Of course we are all aware that the largest organ is the skin. One fact that is associated with skin conditions and blemishes is poor nutrition and lack of vitamins and minerals.
Care should be exercised when taking vitamins, because taking over the acceptable amount can start an outbreak of acne in itself. Excess vitamins would have to be removed via the skin along with other toxins and waste products. The skin is not just a protective layer against the pollution in the environment, it is also an excretory organ.
Acne Vitamins include Vitamin A which helps to reduce the production of oil and that will help to prevent acne and strengthen the protective tissues. Vitamin A is necessary for the repair and maintenance of the mucous membranes and assists in the transportation of toxins from the body.
Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Niacin and Pyridoxine are all components of Vitamin B. To stay healthy the skin requires these ingredients. Stress and anxiety are claimed to be a contributory factor in the outbreak of acne. With high levels of stress and increased hormone production along comes higher levels of oil, leading to the clogging of pores and that will increase the possibility of acne outbreaks. Vitamin B Complex can help to reduce the stress and anxiety levels.
Vitamin B1 acts as an antioxidant flushing out toxins from the body as well as helping in digestion and circulation of the blood. Vitamin B2 ” Riboflavin- should be taken with Vitamin A for better absorption. It is used to maintain and improve mucous membranes, hair, skin and nails. Lack of B2 has been shown to lead to acne making it a important vitamin for acne supplement.
Another acne vitamin is Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide which improves circulation essential for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid, is vital for reducing stress and required for the proper function of the adrenal glands which regulates some of the bodys hormones.
The last of the B Vitamins, B6 or Pyridoxine is vital for the immune system. The immune system is vital and is required to fight off infections. Without it, bacterial growth would overpower the organs and the result would be widespread infection. This can lead to skin bacteria proliferating and that may lead to skin conditions.
One more Acne Vitamin is Vitamin C. This is another powerful anti-oxidant that boosts the immune system to fight off infections. It also helps in the repair and function of tissue growth. Vitamin E helps by preventing the accumulation of excess fat and protecting against the formation of free radicals and cell damage.
If you are intending to proceed with a non standard multi-vitamin regimen, you perhaps should discuss it first with your dermatologist. Do not take excessive amounts of fat soluble vitamins without the instructions of your doctor. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the fat cells of the body. Water soluble vitamins, on the other hand, are flushed through the kidneys and out of the body. This can lead to unpleasant side effects and to be avoided.
If you use Acne Vitamins carefully and sensibly, along with improvements to your nutrition, it could be become a long term viable alternative treatment for acne, without the need for prescribed medication. There are no guarantees however. But improved nutrition will not just promote a healthier skin, it has some other major benefits to your health as well, not just weight loss. Remember consult you doctor or medical adviser before starting a vitamin course.
