Picking the Best Cheap Beer

Cheap Beer will always have a home at college parties, but the real question is which of these college style beers has the best taste. What we discovered is college students actually prefer the taste of Keystone Light.

To discover for ourselves which beer had the best taste we conducted a blind taste test, using Miller, Coors, Bud, and Keystone Light. And much to our surprise Keystone came out on top.

Despite their cheesy slogan, and the poor packaging, Keystone, one of the absolutely cheapest of beers, just happened to also deliver the best taste.

Our test volunteers, included fifteen college students, from various walks of life. We brought them all together for a taste test that would let us know once and for all which of the cheap “college” beers was truly the beer of choice.

Each student was give four red plastic cups with with one third of a beer, containing either Miller, Bud, Coors, or Keystone Light. Our Volunteers were then blindfolded and sat down in front of their cups. They were then asked to drink from the cups one at a time and rank each beer on a scale of 1 to 5. We gave them three variables to consider, generic taste, smoothness, and quality.

Our volunteers then drank from each cup, pausing in between to give their comments to the test administrators. They gave their opinions based on the three categories we laid out for them, and we used that to rank the beers accordingly. Our volunteers were given their beers in random order to prevent influence from the other participants.

When the test was complete, and the scores had been tallied, we were shocked to discover that 12 of our 15 students ranked Keystone the highest, and two of the remaining 3 placed it in second place. Miller Light placed second with Bud Light falling in last place. I guess that the cheapest of the cheap beers might just happen to also have the best taste.
