One of the most popular coffee brewing methods in Europe is the French Press Coffee. It is also known as the plunger pot, coffee press, or press-pot. This method of coffee brewing makes a wonderful cup of coffee and is spreading all across America.

The way this method works involves a glass cylinder, fine mesh filter and fresh coffee grounds. The mesh filter will separate the hot water from the grounds.

Here are the directions to making an excellent cup of pressed coffee.

1. Remove the plunger from the coffee press. Heat the coffee press and the coffee cup using warm water.

2. Use about two tablespoons of ground coffee per cup of water. Use dark roasted beans and in the best in high quality beans. Coarsely grind the beans because of finely ground coffee will clog the filter.

3. Now, place the ground coffee into the French press. Make sure that the water you were using to warm the cylinder has been discarded.

4. Add hot, not boiling water to the pot. Leave a minimum of one inch at the top. Stir gently.

5. Now place the plunger on top of the French Press. Do not plunge it yet. Let it sit for at least 4 minutes to steep.

6. Now you can gradually push down the plunger. Use a steady weight and don’t push too fast. Let the brewed coffee strain through the filter. Be careful not to let the coffee splash out. Lowering the plunger slowly with minimal pressure produces the best results.

That’s all there is to it. Now all you have to do is enjoy and make sure you finish before it gets cold. Bon Apetit!
