10 Jun 2009Everyone has their own unique preferences and methods for applying perfume. You’ll find that there’s as much variation in application techniques as there are varieties of scents and fragrances. However as long as you stick to a few basic recommendations you’ll be sure to get the most pleasure out of your favorite scent.
A lot of women make the mistake of wearing too much perfume. This is actually fairly easy to do since after wearing the same perfume for a number of months your nose is not as sensitive to the scent as others may be. You certainly want people to notice your fragrance but you don’t want them running from the room either.
Instead of spraying the perfume on your wrists and then rubbing them together, most experts agree that it’s better to let the perfume air dry. If you rub or dab the area where the perfume was applied the fragile and tiny perfume molecules are destroyed. This will create a different and perhaps less desirable scent.
Another topic of debate in the perfume world is whether or not it’s better to walk through a misted cloud of fragrance or to spray the perfume directly on your skin. It goes without saying that the overall concentration of the scent will diminish if it lands on your clothes and not your skin.
Which areas of the body are best to use for application? Popular options include inside the wrists, behind your knees, and even between the breasts. You’ll find that the perfume will take on a different scent depending on which application location you choose.
Some people like to test a perfume before spraying it directly on their skin. A good way to do this is to mist a tiny amount on your clothing. However, you need to be careful because depending on your fabric and the type of perfume there may be some staining. You may also like to smell your perfume even when not wearing it directly. To do so simply mist items like sheets, curtains, scarves, and gloves. Remember that there are more places to wear perfume than on your skin!
If for some reason you find a particular fragrance offensive and need to remove it quickly you can try rubbing the affected areas first with unscented deodorant and then washing with liquid laundry detergent.
