1 Mar 2010As you may know, hard drives are used in computers. However, do you know that they are also used in camcorders and VCR-types devices these days?
In the case of a desktop personal computer, the hard drive is stored in the CPU or Central Processing Unit of your desktop. Failure of the hard drive would mean the breakdown of your computer. Therefore, look after your hard drive well especially if it is a net book or a laptop.
Nowadays, a hard drive can have a memory capacity up to 100Gigabytes. However, you might be comfortable with 10Gigabytes for normal use like surfing the internet and working with Ms Office applications. For those who work with lots of graphics and need to save them onto their computers, they might prefer a much higher hard drive memory capacity.
In other words, they store your important and critical files. Malfunction of your hard drive might mean loss of your precious data and other important applications. Hence, it is better to make the proper back up of important files, data or otherwise as a precaution. In relation to this, it is a good move to carry out proper maintenance of your hard drive.
Many people seem to miss this aspect. On and off, check the hard drive space in your computer. How much of space have you used up? If it exceeds seventy-eighty percent, it may slow down the performance of the computer. It might take a longer time to boot your computer.
It is important to do simple maintenance of your hard drive. Virus scan, defragment and scan disk are some of the checks that you should perform on a scheduled basis. Your computer especially your desktop might last longer, perhaps for years if you should perform such actions.
