11 Jun 2009The Lexmark S 1650 is a printer that is part of Lexmark’s Optra series. This series has been discontinued for active sales, but it can be found online as refurbished models. If you think that buying refurbished equipment is right for you – look into the risks and benefits of doing this before you buy – then you may save some money with this printer and the compatible S 1650 Toner.
The Lexmark company is a respected provider of computer accessories. Since it split from IBM in 1991, it has grown to where it now makes about five billion dollars in revenue every year. It has been listed as #5 in most admired companies of computer peripherals by Fortune magazine, and it has been given an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau.
This Lexmark S 1650 is a monochrome printer with a capacity of 16 pages per minute using Lexmark S 1650 Toner Cartridge. Now, most small business operations will be fine with such a speed, but this may tax companies that have an extremely high volume (or if they print higher volumes periodically on bigger projects). If you don’t think this will work for you, you will want to find another (hopefully affordable) option that better suits your needs.
Unlike its speed, it has a remarkable duty cycle. This Lexmark’s duty cycle is rated at sixty-five thousand pages per month, which is sizable compared to the needs of most small offices. It is also upgradeable to a three thousand-plus tray (although it comes with a three hundred page tray standard).
The printing quality itself is pretty good. This S 1650 series printer is known for its ability to print decent graphics with smooth, un-jagged lines that will make for professional graphs and other business images. It has a resolution of up to 1200 DPI (dots per inch), which will be more than enough for most users. In fact, you will probably be printing at a lower resolution most of the time anyway. It also has a reliable paper feed system, so you won’t be experiencing too many paper jams.
Nowadays the printer is usually available at online merchants as used or refurbished at prices usually under three hundred dollars. This is a great deal if you are comfortable buying a refurbished machine. This is still a reliable, professional level printer and if the rest of the specs fit your needs than this might be an affordable option for you.
The Lexmark S 1650 toner is still being sold at conventional prices, however. In fact, the toner now comes close to costing as much as the printer itself does (this is fairly usual as toner can be expensive). There are two types of toner available: the standard and the high-capacity cartridge. The standard cartridge will print up to seven thousand and five hundred pages. The high-capacity cartridge will print seventeen thousand and five hundred pages for much less than twice the cost.
