One of the jobs that seems to be up and coming in recent years is mystery shopping. A lot of people are looking for ways to become a mystery shopper and while it sounds like the perfect job, it does take some time, hard work and definitely dedication, so you should be sure that you can commit to it before you take the job.

A lot of varied businesses use the services of a mystery shopper. Mind you, you definitely will not just be shopping for clothes and things of that nature. Quite the contrary, you can shop at a variety of places – and even scope out all kinds of restaurants. Even banks sometimes use the services of secret shoppers. So do malls, restaurants, food chains and fashion house. As for eateries, it can be anything, from a gourmet restaurant to a local fast food place.

The main aim of mystery shopping is to allow the businesses who do it to improve their customer service industry. As the mystery shopper, you will be asked to act like a customer – which you are, in essence – in order to audit the employees and the services they render. Secret shoppers are mostly on contract basis, so the advantage is that you can take mystery shopping assignments from multiple agents.

If you have an Internet connection, you can immediately become a secret shopper. There are a number of places online which can help you get in touch with the stores, restaurants, and other businesses who need mystery shoppers. Most of the time, you can join for free. Otherwise, it’s just a minimal fee.

For certain stores, you may have to take some tests or meet some certain qualifications. For example, you cannot be a shopper for a high end and expensive jewelry store if you do not have a lot of money. There are other such requirements for specialty stores. Otherwise, almost anyone can shop almost anywhere.

Lastly, be careful of scammers who may want to cheat you. People will advertise that you can make a lot of money doing this type of business, but you may be spending more money than you make, so always do a background check.
