Incredible graphics and an awesome selection of games is not all that the Xbox 360 has to offer, it also has some killer online play as well. Taking this into account, it is no wonder the Xbox 360 has taken the market by storm.

However, there are some technical issues which a lot of Xbox 360 users could do without. These issues can be spotted by the color of the lights around the power button. When everything is working well, all of these lights are green – but in case of errors, these lights will turn red.

Failures or other types of errors are what these red lights indicate. The amount of red lights that are lite up on your system will determine what the error or problem is. Some problems are easy to fix, while other problems may require that you ship off your Xbox 360 to Microsoft. Knowing what the red lights mean first, will let you know how to properly fix your console.

One red light tells you that there is a problem with your Xbox 360’s scaler chip – this is the chip which sends the display signal to your monitor or TV set. This is a problem which usually requires you to send your Xbox 360 in to be fixed. This is usually fixed pretty quickly, however since it tends to be a minor problem.

The Xbox 360 is probably overheating if you see two red lights. Shut down your system immediately and allow it some time to cool back down. Once it has cooled, you can prevent it from overheating again by cleaning out the dust that has built up inside the console. Also, next time that you play your Xbox make sure that you pull it out of the cabinet and give it lots of room to breathe, the 360’s generate a ton of heat.

3 lights mean that there is a general hardware failure in your Xbox 360 and that your console will have to be sent off to be fixed. The CPU or GPU may be burned out and will need to be replaced in many 3 light errors.

Four red lights is a simple error to fix. It usually just means that your AV cable has come loose. Simply replug-in your AV cable. If you are still experiencing the error then you need a new cable.

These are the most common errors that you may come across while gaming with your Xbox 360. The majority of them are caused by overheating so make sure that you keep your system clean and in a well ventilated area.
