The Proposal: This bulky soap opera set in the 1930s gives Branagh a thankless role as a minister with more complications that anyone could possibly imagine. The Protector: A bizarre mix of a kung-fu film and a boy and his pup tale, this inexpensive looking production from Thailand gets sentimental as a youthful martial artist has his cherished elephant stolen by thugs and transported to Australia. Following the poor men there, he hooks up with a Thai born Australian investigator and does battle with wicked gangs and others in an attempt to repossess his little Dumbo. Cast includes Tony Jaa, Petchtai Wongkamlao, Bongkoj Khongmalai, Nathan Jones, Johnny Nguyen, Xing Jing, and Damian De Montemas. (81 minutes, 2005)

Kind Hearts and Coronets: A black comedy of a castoff member of titled family setting out to remove them all. Guinness plays all 8 victims. Cast includes Dennis Cost, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood, Miles Malleson, Hugh Griffith, Jeremy Spenser, and Arthur Lowe. (104 minutes, 1949)

Defiance: An abrasive little film in reference to rootless blue-collar hermit Vincent, who tries to match up his dying kid’s bone marrow to his own. He then tames a ferocious N.Y.C. street gang. Cast includes Jan-Michael Vincent, Craft Camey, Theresa Saldana, and Danny Aiello. (102 minutes, 1980)

The Deep End of the Sea: A persuasively performed adaptation of Jacquelyn Mitchard’s best seller in reference to the disappearance of a 3 year old at his mom’s high school reunion, and his possible return 9 years later. This 2 part tale is admittedly a whopper, yet it’s addressed in believable style that makes one able to acknowledge it. Cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Treat Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Jonathan Jackson, Ryan Merriman, John Kapelos, and Michael McElroy. (109 minutes, 1999)

The Clubland: Youthful gentleman and his buddies set out to make it in the music industry by operating at a hip club on L.A.’ s Sunset Strip, however they have to handle sleazy publicists and identity complications within the band. The modern-day music and trappings attempt to camouflage, or defeat, a soggy tale that may have been made as a 1930s B film. Cast includes Jimmy Tuckett, Lori Trivial, Brad Seek, Heather Stephens, Rodney Eastman, Guy Quaid, Terence Trent D’ Arby, Alexis Arquette, and Steven Tyler. (94 minutes, 1999)

The Delicate Delinquent: Jerry’s first solo attempt after separating with Dean Martin has him as a janitor mistaken for a juvenile delinquent who becomes a cop with McGavin’s help. Cast Jerry Lewis, Martha Hyer, Darren McGavin, Horace McMahon, and Milton Frome. (100 minutes, 1957)

The Great Locomotion Chase: The true tale of Andrews’ Raiders (filmed before by Buster Keaton as The General) comes to life in this vibrant Disney film. Parker is a renowned Union detective who leads a rowdy band in seizing and “abducting” a Confederate railroad. Cast includes Fess Parker, Jeffrey Hunter, Jeff York, John Lupton, Eddie Firestone, and Kenneth Tobey. (55 minutes, 1956)

Downstairs: A crackling, adult drama in regards to a low life who rests and cajoles his way from one prosperous home to another utilizing both the mistresses of the homes upstairs and the servants downstairs. Gilbert transfers a bold acting job that more than some other reclaims his maligned notoriety as a “talkie” performer. Cast includes John Gilbert, Paul Lukas, Virginia Bruce, Hedda Basket, Reginald Owen, and Olga Bafamilyova. (77 minutes, 1932)
