A cocktail that is served chilled in the long stemmed Martini glasses with gin or vodka on vermouth is very much a crowd popular mixed alcoholic beverage called Martini. This particular drink is mostly served with a garnish of olive or a big lemon.
There are quite good variations in making this Martini. It is the unequal proportions of gin and vermouth that gives a lingering taste to Martini. Traditional Martini recipe however is a 2:1 proportion and contemporary martini drinkers prefer up to 5:1 proportion. In case you are one who freak on the dry Martini, then the ratio of gin to vermouth will go to as high as 15:1. Just remember the simple secret; less the vermouth, the drier will be your Martini.
While there are so many tales attached to the Martini origin. It is universally believed that the term Martini has been come from the name of the company Martini & Rossi which was known for manufacturing vermouth. Nonetheless Martini holds a sacred position in the social history and is rightfully called the King of Cocktails.
There is no magic behind making a perfect martini. All you need to do is experiment and gain experience through observation. First of, you need to keep your gin or vodka in the freezer to make it chilled. You also need to chill your martini glasses and martini shakers as well. Clean fresh ice will be used and enjoy your martini in a crisp and cool mood.
Traditional Martini drinkers sip Martini in a stirring glass because they believe that vodka or gin mixes quite uniformly with the vermouth and shaking the Martini distorts the taste totally with bruising of gin. However, for those of the Martini drinkers who like to have Martini served shaken with ice cubes, oxygen is added to the beverage which enhances the taste of the cocktail.
Apple Martini, Chocolate Martini, Classic Dry Martini and Dirty Martini are few of the many variations, but it is the Vodka Martini that is loved by all. And, to make this Vodka Martini, you take 6 parts of vodka and 2 parts dry Vermouth in Martini shakers with crushed ice and then filter the liquid in Martini glasses to serve to your esteemed guests garnished with olive. Chilled Martini will add warmth to the party.
So, did you find that there is no voodoo behind the perfect Martini? The bartender simply makes the Martini taste different by combining proportions of gin and vermouth. Let him or the mixologist know how you?d like to have it; Martini stirred or shaken. No big deal. And, it is also known that traditional Martini drinkers always love sipping Martini with gin stirred with vermouth to shaken up along with grated ice.
Just so you know today, it is the vodka-based Martini that has become more popular and loved because straight gin can be bit harsh for new drinkers. Some drinkers still love the traditional gin martini stirred with a splash of vermouth or shaken with ice in a Martini shaker.
