Over time, Martini has become one of the most loved mixed alcoholic beverages with both the sexes. The drink comes with its own folklore and there is no definite story behind its origin. It is a cocktail made of unequal portion of gin and dry vermouth with either a dash of lemon or olive green and is said to have been named as Martini after the company of Martini & Rossi. This beverage is served chilled in a conical-stemmed glass which is now dubbed as the martini glass.
With time, gin is replaced by more popular vodka and the cocktail is named vodka martini and it uses lemon rind as a garnish. The variation of Martini is made famous by Ian Fleming?s legendary James Bond in his movies as his favorite beverage.
While there are so many tales attached to the Martini origin. It is universally believed that the term Martini has been come from the name of the company Martini & Rossi which was known for manufacturing vermouth. Nonetheless Martini holds a sacred position in the social history and is rightfully called the King of Cocktails.
All you need for making the Martini is the Martini glasses, Martini shakers, fresh ice cubes, chilled gin or vodka and vermouth. The ingredients are mixed together either by stirring or shaking them with ice cubes.
Again, if dry Martini is what you love more, then go for less amount of Vermouth. Its only the amount of vermouth that determines your Martini by taste; lesser the vermouth drier your Martini.
Apple Martini, Chocolate Martini, Classic Dry Martini and Dirty Martini are few of the many variations, but it is the Vodka Martini that is loved by all. And, to make this Vodka Martini, you take 6 parts of vodka and 2 parts dry Vermouth in Martini shakers with crushed ice and then filter the liquid in Martini glasses to serve to your esteemed guests garnished with olive. Chilled Martini will add warmth to the party.
Again, it is the flavored Vodka Martinis that are quite popular with the younger generations. Gin is a bit harsh and vodka being neutral; they get easily mixed with other flavors making a wide range of flavored Martinis.
Just so you know today, it is the vodka-based Martini that has become more popular and loved because straight gin can be bit harsh for new drinkers. Some drinkers still love the traditional gin martini stirred with a splash of vermouth or shaken with ice in a Martini shaker.
