Ever organized a costume party and landed up seeking professional help? Organizing a party can be a real problem; right from choosing the theme, sending the invites, decoration etc especially when you are doing everything on your own. Hence, it becomes important to plan this entire thing in advance and taking help from your friend is just the beginning. After all, they will be the one enjoying the party to the most.

Selection of the theme is the most important part for holding a costume party. Hence, it should be the first thing to do. Try to make the party as enjoyable and fun-filled as possible for every guest. Make a note that the women’s and men’s costumes as per the decided themes should not be hard to find as this might make the guests coming in formals or other party wear with an excuse that they did not find the costumes! This is surely going to spoil the mood of the party. Keep everything within your budget and check if the decorations that you are planning to do will suit the venue or will the venue be able to accommodate the desired decorations.

Ask help from friends and family, and do some brainstorming! It’s always nice to get ideas from others especially when you’re running out of it; the more plans you can think of, the more likely the costume party will be a success. Grab a pen and paper, and list everything you’ve discussed. After some more brainstorming and sleepovers, decide on which ideas you’ll be using and which ones you can save in the meantime, in case the first chosen plans won’t be feasible.

The chosen age group of the guests is a big factor in planning the costume party. For children’s costume parties, the costumes are usually more colorful, exciting, and easy to move around in. The menu for kids would mostly consist of finger foods, cupcakes and those that won’t create much mess. For the adults, adult costumes may require less effort than when preparing for the children, and when out of time, there are lots of costume shops out there where they can effortlessly grab their desired men’s costumes. And cocktail drinks and an open bar might be seen in adult parties instead of candies and chocolates.

The invitations should be sent to the guests some considerable time before the party. This will make sure that the guests have the right costume and have arranged everything for that day. The invitation if sent out before a month form the date of the party will be fine. Since you are sending the invites a month before, you may mention a punishment for the guests who are not going to come in the right costume!

No costume party is complete without prizes. Certain contests can be organized by the host so as to create some amusement, fascination and excitement. The contests can vary and are a personal choice. You can still go for the traditional “best costume” award for the best costume and the rest is left to your imagination. Prize distribution is something that fascinates everyone as everyone wants to win.

It is important for the guests to have fun, and some form of entertainment loyal to the theme should be waiting for them as they arrive one by one. The guests themselves are the life of the party, and even though they all look good looking In their fabulous women’s and men’s costumes, a party will eventually become boring if all they do is chat in the silent air. Suitable background music for the theme must be prepared and selected a few days before. Oftentimes, an emcee with great people skills and an interesting personality can be enough to provide the entertainment for the guests.

At the end of the day, although it’s important for the guests to enjoy themselves, it also very important for you and those in charge to have fun! The success of the event is also your success, and don’t forget to celebrate it with them and congratulate all for a job well done.
