The popularity of the TV cannot be denied, especially among youngsters. What is used to be called the “idiot box” is actually a great source of information for the children. However, it should be made clear that while TV sets seem rather indispensable in these times, there are many risks attached to TV watching. As a parent you must monitor closely that the programs that your little ones are watching are only those shows that are educational and child-friendly.

Watching TV can breed positive values as it enhances cooperation and encourages tolerance and respect. At the same time, however, since watching TV means fewer active moments, it can make one prone to obesity. Aside from that, it can expose kids to violence and drug abuse, cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, and sex.

Make watching TV a family activity. Consider having a regular “family movie night” at home. Search some kind of kid friendly title that is suitable for the whole family and involve children in choosing and talking about the films you watch together. When a family sits together and watch movies they bring the family closer.

There are many wholesome comedy shows for the whole family to enjoy and to laugh with together; because laughter brings the family closer, it increases the level of energy and brings out the spirit of cooperation especially among children. It enhances family relationships and supports both physical and emotional health.

Perhaps you are not aware of it, but there have been studies made on the effect of watching TV on children’s health, and the result is that children are able to deal with pain much longer. Get your children involved when choosing a particular show to watch so they will have something to look forward to come on family TV day.

It’s not the kind of shows that you watch that’s really important at all. Your kids can choose to watch just about any TV show that grown-ups will also enjoy. What’s really important is the time spent with each other. Just think of how it would make you feel to gather together in your living room and laughing all the way.

The practice of watching wholesome comedy shows with your children can be stress relieving; it also helps to develop a healthy state of mind.

Doing things together as a family, even by just watching a comedy show and laughing out loud as one, is a well learned lesson for the kids; learn to laugh, don’t take things so seriously, and lighten up.
